Welcome to EYFS at The Topsham School!

The Early Years Foundation Stage (EYFS), which spans from birth to age five, is a uniquely important period in every child’s development. These early years shape how children learn, explore, and relate to the world around them, laying the essential foundations for all future learning.

At The Topsham School, we recognise what a privilege it is to be part of this first chapter in a child’s educational journey. We are deeply committed to ensuring that every child’s early experiences are joyful, meaningful, and rich with opportunities to grow and develop.

Central to our philosophy is a deep belief in the power of play‑based learning, rooted in joy, wonder, and discovery. We strive to create an environment where children are free to explore, imagine, and investigate, where learning is meaningful because it is driven by their natural curiosity. We see play not as a break from learning, but as the most powerful vehicle for it, enabling children to make sense of the world around them in a way that is both developmentally appropriate and deeply engaging.

Our aim is to nurture confident, independent learners by providing the knowledge, skills, and dispositions they need to build a secure and lasting foundation for the years ahead.
